A Tribute to Mr John Edgar [1944 – 2018]
The Dalby community and Queensland legal profession said farewell to one of their most respected and revered members, when Mr John Edgar passed away, at age 74, on 15th July 2018.
John was one of the region’s most respected solicitors having practiced on the Darling Downs for almost 50 years. He had worked across generations of local families in the negotiation and settlement of commercial transactions, estate planning, trusts, finance and security and a broad range of legal services.
John commenced his career (when the practice was owned by Justin O’Sullivan) as an articled clerk, completed his studies at the University of Queensland, and was admitted to practice as a solicitor in 1968. The following year, John became a partner in the firm. John had a keen interest in alternative dispute resolution and had a national accreditation as a mediator (through LEADR).
He made a significant contribution to the local community as Past President of Dalby Apex, Dalby Swimming Club, Dalby Day Care and Kindergarten, Dalby Golf Club, Dalby Rotary Club; Past Chairman of Dalby Fire Brigade Board, Dalby TAFE Campus Council; Past Secretary of Dalby Rugby Club, Dalby Wambo Recreation Association; and Member of the Southern Qld institute of TAFE Council.
John’s example of integrity, warmth, fairness and community spirit have left a lasting legacy on Edgar and Wood.
